How the Grand Duchy keeps its time

From a meridian to UTC (LUX)
+1 hhow far standard legal time runs ahead of Coordinated Universal Time
Before its amendment, the first article of the time law tied legal time to the fifteenth meridian east of Greenwich. It named that meridian's mean time, Universal Time plus one hour. The amending law now defines legal time as Coordinated Universal Time plus one hour. The new text names that base value UTC (LUX). The parliamentary file says the value of legal time did not change.

Two atomic clocks at ILNAS
2high-performance atomic clocks that generate legal time in Luxembourg
The law gives the Bureau luxembourgeois de métrologie, part of ILNAS, the task of determining and disseminating UTC (LUX). An ILNAS laboratory generates legal time with two high-performance atomic clocks. Redundant equipment keeps its synchronisation signals going through an equipment fault or a power cut. The bureau also supplies the BIPM with the UTC value for Luxembourg.

Summer time by regulation
Art. 2the article of the time law that lets a regulation modify legal time
The time law lets a grand-ducal regulation modify legal time as its first article defines it. A draft regulation on summer time sits in one of the Conseil d'État's files. The draft cites the EU summer-time directive, which sets that system for an indefinite period. No adopted version of the draft was found when this page was checked.

Unified time and an October decree
60 minhow far a decree put the clocks back one night shortly before the Second World War
Time across the Grand Duchy was the subject of a unification law early in the twentieth century. A grand-ducal decree issued shortly before the Second World War cites that law. It put the clocks back sixty minutes at one in the morning, on a night at the start of October.
