How to convert a time between zones
Pick the two places
Search by city, country or abbreviation. Typing EST lists every place on Eastern Time, and typing Denver finds Mountain Time.
Set the date and time
The date matters, because either place may be on daylight saving that day. The converter applies the rule in force on the date you set.
Read the answer
If the answer falls on another day, the converter says so. It also tells you when a clock change skips the time you entered or makes it happen twice.
Why converted times shift by a day
The further apart two places are, the more hours of the day land on a different date. A call at 9:00 AM on a Monday in Los Angeles is 1:00 AM on Tuesday in Singapore in January, and 12:00 AM on Tuesday in July.
The converter shows the day next to the time for this reason. A meeting booked on the wrong day is the mistake it exists to prevent.
Why the same two places can be different hours apart
New York and Tokyo are 14 hours apart in January and 13 hours apart in July. That happens when one place changes its clocks and the other does not.
It also happens when both change, but on different dates. New York and London are 5 hours apart for most of 2026, but 4 hours apart from 8 to 29 March and from 25 October to 1 November. New York changes its clocks 3 weeks before London in March, and London changes 1 week before New York in October. A weekly call set in New York time starts 1 hour earlier in London for those weeks.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between EST and EDT?
EST is Eastern Time in winter, 5 hours behind UTC. EDT is Eastern Time in summer, 4 hours behind UTC. An invitation that says Eastern Time means whichever one is in force that day. In 2026 clocks moved to EDT on Sunday 8 March and move back to EST on Sunday 1 November.
Why does typing IST show more than one place?
IST is used in India, Ireland and Israel, and it means a different time in each. The converter never picks one for you. Typing IST lists every place that uses it, so you choose the one you mean. The answer then shows the code that place uses on your date.
Which dates can I convert?
Any date from 2024 to 2037. The converter uses release 2026e of the IANA time zone database, which records every clock change in those years as far as it is known today. A government can still change its rules before a future date, so a conversion years ahead can change too.
Which time zone is UTC?
UTC is not a place. It is the reference every other time zone is measured from, and it never changes for daylight saving. GMT has the same offset. Dublin and London use it in winter, and places such as Ghana, Iceland and Senegal keep it all year.
