What is the Pomodoro technique?
The Pomodoro technique breaks focused work into timed intervals. Choose one task, work until the focus period ends, then take a short break. After several focus sessions, take a longer break before beginning the next cycle. You can change every duration and the number of sessions to fit your routine.
The default focus cycle
25-minute focus
Work on one defined task until the session ends.
5-minute short break
Step away after the first three focus sessions.
15-minute long break
Take a longer reset after the fourth focus session.
Custom cycle
Change all three durations and the number of focus sessions before starting.
A focus cycle with clear stopping points
There is a short break after the first three focus sessions and a longer break after the fourth, then the next cycle returns to focus session one.
The next session does not begin by itself unless you enable the matching auto-start option.
Timing that does not depend on browser ticks
The shared countdown records the exact deadline for the active session. Browser repaint intervals only refresh the display, so switching tabs or missing visual updates does not make the countdown run slowly. If the browser suspends the page completely, the alert may wait until the page can run again.
How to use the Pomodoro timer
Choose one task
Keep the focus session limited to a specific outcome.
Press Start
Pause or reset the current session if the work is interrupted.
Take the prepared break
Start it yourself, or enable auto-start for breaks.
Continue the cycle
After the long break, the session count returns to one.
Sound, wake lock and page limits
Starting or testing the timer prepares a three-note browser alert. The page requests a screen wake lock while a session runs when the browser supports it. Closing the tab ends the cycle, and this version does not save history, sync sessions or send operating-system notifications.
Frequently asked questions
What happens when a focus session finishes?
The timer prepares a short break after focus sessions one through three and a long break after the fourth. By default it waits for you to press Start. Auto-start can be enabled separately for breaks and focus sessions.
Can I change the Pomodoro durations?
Yes. Before a session starts, set the focus, short-break and long-break lengths and choose how many focus sessions make one cycle.
Does the cycle continue if I close the tab?
No. The workflow exists only in the open page. Switching tabs keeps the deadline accurate, but closing or reloading the page starts a new cycle.
