What this countdown does
This tool counts down to a date and time you choose. It shows the days, hours, minutes and seconds left, or whole days only.
The count runs on this site's server time, not only on your device clock. If your device clock is wrong, the countdown still ends on time.
How to make and share a countdown
Name it
Add a title if you like, such as a product launch or a birthday. It can be up to 80 characters.
Set the date and time
Choose the date and the time of the event. The preview counts down as soon as both are set.
Pick a time zone
The time zone starts as yours. Choose another one if the event takes place somewhere else.
Create the link
Press Create link, then copy the link or open it. Anyone who opens it sees the same countdown.
Time zones and the same local time everywhere
A countdown normally points at one moment for everyone. A viewer in another time zone sees it end at that same moment, in their own local time.
Same local time everywhere works differently. The countdown ends at the chosen time in each viewer's own time zone. Use it for New Year at midnight, which arrives at a different moment in each place.
On the day the clocks go forward, some local times do not exist. The countdown then uses the first valid time after it and says so. When the clocks go back, a time can happen twice, and the countdown uses the first one.
After the event
By default the countdown keeps going after zero and counts up the time since the event. Choose Stop at zero to hold it at zero instead.
Full screen shows the countdown on its own. While it is in full screen, the screen stays on where the browser supports it.
Frequently asked questions
Does the countdown save anything?
No. Everything the countdown needs is in the link itself. That includes the title, the date, the time zone and the display options. Nothing is stored on our server, so the link works for anyone who opens it.
What time zone does a shared countdown use?
It uses the time zone you picked when you made it. Viewers in other zones see it end at the same moment, in their own local time. With same local time everywhere on, each viewer counts down to that time in their own zone.
What happens when the countdown reaches zero?
It counts up by default, so the display shows how long ago the event was. If you chose Stop at zero, it stays at zero and says the countdown has ended. There is no sound at zero.
Why can the countdown differ from my device clock?
The countdown uses the time from our server, measured when the page loads and checked again every 15 minutes. If your device clock runs fast or slow, the countdown still ends on time. Without a server answer, it uses your device clock.
