An amending act then adds a period of winter time. During that period, the time for general purposes is Greenwich Mean Time. The original act keeps Greenwich Mean Time for astronomy, meteorology and navigation. The zone facts above use the site's usual labels, so they list Greenwich Mean Time as standard time.

The time zone database compares Dunsink Observatory, northwest of Dublin's centre, to Greenwich for London. It cites a figure for Dublin Mean Time of about twenty-five minutes behind Universal Time. Ireland is on Greenwich Mean Time, GMT, during the winter months. In summer its clocks run one hour ahead of Greenwich, on IST. The time zone database reads IST as Irish Standard Time. Dublin, Cork and Limerick share the one zone, so their clocks agree all year.

When do the clocks change in Ireland?

Winter time starts at one in the morning, Greenwich Mean Time, on the last Sunday in October. Irish clocks then drop back an hour. Winter time ends at that same hour on the last Sunday in March. These dates come from the Winter Time Order, whose explanatory note ties it to an EU directive.
