- Federal law lets a state inside one time zone exempt itself from daylight saving time. Arizona did so by statute. Section 1-242 of the Arizona Revised Statutes rejects daylight saving time and keeps standard mountain time. Arizona observed daylight saving time again in the late sixties, and its legislature repealed it after one year. The statute says a future legislature may change the choice.

What time is it in Arizona now?
The clock at the top of this page shows Arizona time now, to the second. Phoenix, Tucson, Mesa and Chandler all show the same time. Arizona keeps MST, UTC-7 through the whole year. The one exception is the Navajo Nation, which runs one hour ahead in summer.
Does Arizona change its clocks for daylight saving time?
No. Arizona rejected daylight saving time by statute and stays on standard time all year. The Navajo Nation is the exception. It changes its clocks to stay in step with its communities in Utah and New Mexico. Hawaii is the only other state that keeps standard time all year.
Is Arizona on the same time as California?
Only in summer. Los Angeles is 1 hour behind Phoenix in winter. California keeps Pacific time and Arizona keeps mountain time. In spring California moves its clocks forward one hour and Arizona does not. So the two states show the same time until autumn. Then California sets its clocks back and the gap returns.
